The Story of Vxkulnh
Most of us have had an idea or two that we think could become a great product, but few actually follow through. I lived in seclusion for over a decade until my first success: the Vxkulnh chair. Creating, designing, and building original products is inherently fun—especially when you can help others. Here's the story of how the Vxkulnh chair evolved.
An idea was born
I became fascinated with camping chairs with backrests while camping in the remote Mammoth Lakes region of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. After twisting and turning uncomfortably in them over a hundred times, I asked other people if they had back pain from using them. To my great surprise, nearly everyone, especially those in their early thirties, experienced back pain.
Imagining a Solution
This was exactly what I needed—once I realized this wasn't just my problem, but one shared by many, I decided to delve deeper. I realized there must be a lot of people using camping chairs who suffer in silence because they don't want to complain about the back pain common among older adults.
The work began!
So, over the next few evenings and weekends, I pulled out my tools and made countless trips to the hardware store, eventually coming up with the design for the Vxkulnh. However, my initial vision for the solution was very different from the final product. I designed approximately 30 prototypes, tweaking and refining them until I finally settled on one, about a year later. Initially, I envisioned a jumble of straps and protrusions, but as I refined the effectiveness of the back support, it became simpler and simpler—undoubtedly the key to the product's ultimate success.
